Bruno was born in the city of Salvador,BA in Brazil and comes from the team Edson Carvalho BJJ and Judo club.[2] Bruno is the nephew of Edson Carvalho who holds a 6th degree Black Belt in Judo & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
He was born in a family of athletes. His grandfather, Francisco de Magalhães Pinto (Ciro), currently 7º (seventh) Dan de Judô, came to Bahia in 1966 where he established the Itapagipano de Judô Club, forming it with his five children (black belts), amongst them, Cristiane Carvalho Pinto, Brunos mother, with whom he learned his first Judô techniques and perfecting himself in the art with his uncle Ciro and his grandfather. In 1996, Bruno started to train the Jiu-Jitsu with his uncle Ricardo Carvalho, that opened the Edson Carvalho Academy in homage to his brother Edson Carvalho, that currently gives Jiu-Jitsu lessons in New Jersey (U.S.A.). Currently he dedicate the two martial arts cited above, where he is a black belt in both, competing in the two modalities and also compete in Submission and MMA.
March 2010, Bruno had a fight against the titleholder of KSW organisation, Vitor Nobrega, a fight where both men would fight about their respective belts. Bruno won the fight successfully but in a last minute decision from Nobregas management, they decided not to bring their belt.
Bruno was scheduled to fight Robert Jocz on November 27, but due to Jocz withdrawal, Tomasz Kondraciuk replaced him instead.
Bruno had his first Superior Challenge fight against former The Ultimate Fighter competitor Kyacey Uscola in a bout on April 30, 2011.
